It happened to be a rainy day today.
The August heat was hottest in the southern cities, so it would be very humid and the air would be uncomfortable during raining weather in the city, but the suburbs near the mountain was particularly cool. The coolness climbed up from the soles of her feet, making Qiao Yin feel a bit cold.
The community where Tong Wei worked was next to the mountain resort. It was also famous for its greenery, so it was called LuYin Community. Qiao Yin was standing next to an old tree that was ten meters high and was leaning against the residential building, where Qiao Yin and Huang Ling had heard the cry of the little girl that morning two days ago when they had confronted Tong Wei, who made the two girls cry for so long.
"Lawyer Qiao, fortunately, you are quick to respond," Xiao Chang exclaimed, shaking his head. He was the policeman who was taking her statement of the events that transpired that day.
"Hey hey, what are you talking about?!" Yan Cong asked as he lifted the police tape, interrupting Xiao Change just in time. He unusually raised his eyebrows and assumed a serious posture, "The statement is done? Go hand it in, and then go to Leader Xiao to ask what else to do." It was only then that Xiao Chang realized that he had misspoken, he quickly nodded and walked away, leaving Yan Cong to grin apologetically at Qiao Yin: "I apologize Lawyer Qiao, he's new here, he doesn't think before speaking."
Qiao Yin smiled, hinting that she didn't care, and asked, "Found it?"
Yan Cong nodded, "The two corpses are buried here." He paused, and then curiously looked at her, "But I am also a little curious, why did Lawyer Qiao think that he would bury the corpses here?"
"I also saw the news that there were still two victims whose bodies had not been found, and then I thought of it." Qiao Yin calmly said as she held an umbrella in one hand, and pinched the corner of her gray sweater with the other, her expression still calm as she continued. "The children were timid and she was just going to secretly bury her pet. Normally, if they were discovered by a security guard, after being scolded lightly they would have abandoned their shovel and ran away. But that day I didn’t hear the security guard’s voice in the beginning. When I went over to check, his voice was suppressed, and he had grabbed the child's arm really forcefully causing her arm to redden. Most likely, when he noticed them, he grabbed the girl's arm right away to stop them and did not want to raise his voice. This reaction... was a bit strange."
When she saw the news the night before and the thought occurred that the body might have been buried in that path, she immediately felt terrified. If it weren't for the consideration that Xiao Yang might be busy, she would have immediately called him right after watching the news. then there would have been no need to endure the goosebumps all night.
"As expected of an experienced lawyer, your ability to observe is different." Yan Cong said, he could not help praising her after hearing her explanation. He then turned to look at Xiao Yang, who was still examining one of the bodies not far away, he cleared his throat and spoke in a suggestive voice, "After confirming the identities of the two corpses, if nothing unexpected happens, the case will almost be finished. The issues after that would be for the prosecutor's office. If it goes well, Old Xiao will probably be able to go home tomorrow."
Qiao Yin understood what he meant, and her pair of big eyes immediately lit up with a smile, but her words were still very reserved: "You guys have been busy for so many days, so it's time to take a good rest."
Unexpectedly, as soon as her words fell, a surprised voice called out behind her: "Qiao Yin?"
Qiao Yin immediately turned her head and saw Zhou ChengZe standing about ten steps away from them, walking through the group of reporters and onlookers crowded in front of the police tape. He glanced about, looking for a way to pass through. He was holding a large umbrella in his hand and dressed in a beige suit pants and a gray office shirt.
"Huh?" Qiao Yin couldn't help being surprised. "You are not working today?"
Zhou ChengZe did not answer her and swiftly walked over to her. He quickly looked her up and down and then subconsciously grabbed her wrist as soon as he stopped in front of her, his expression incredibly tense: "Are you okay?" He asked and without waiting for an answer, he looked at Yan Cong, still holding onto her wrist tightly as if worried that she would be taken away by the police as asked, "Excuse me, what happened?"
He was obviously anxious for her, how can Yan Cong not tell. Yan Cong calmly looked at Zhou ChengZe calmly and simply gave a vague answer: "Assisting in the investigation."
"I'm okay." Qiao Yin said, pulling her hand out of Zhou ChengZe's hold. She was a little taken aback by his sudden appearance, so she just repeated the question with a smile, "Don't you need to go to work today?"
Zhou ChengZe returned to his senses and turned to her and responded, "I came back to get something." Then he turned his gaze back to Yan Cong, "Then can she go now?"
"Oh, this..." Yan Cong squinted his eyes and then raised his hand and rubbed the tip of his nose as he stretched the last word, wondering how to answer as he thought to himself: In actuality, it is was okay for her to go, but going with you... doesn't seem to be a good idea.
Fortunately, when he was stuck in this dilemma, Xiao Yang's cold answer came from behind him: "Sorry, not for the time being."
The three people looked up at the same time, and they saw Xiao Yang lifting up the police tape, his steps were not hurried and his expression was calm not revealing any emotion. He stopped beside Yan Cong and his eyes calmly fell on Zhou ChengZe. Whether it was his height of 6ft or the serious tone he had, he was beyond doubt as he said: "She still needs to stay and continue to assist in the investigation."
With this appearance, let alone Zhou ChengZe, even Qiao Yin was fooled. Yan Cong quickly gave a fake cough, "Well, I'll head over to talk to Lao Bai, I'll leave it to you here." He quickly said and turned and retreated.
Zhou ChengZe thought that Qiao Yin was involved in some kind of troublesome case. He opened his mouth and wanted to ask something more, but Qiao Yin patted his arm to stop him, "It's okay, this case has nothing to do with me, I'm just helping." She said, comforting him out of habit, and then reminded, "Aren't you going back to work? Don't be late."
Hearing this, Zhou ChengZe pursed his lips and then nodded, frowning slightly, still a little worried, he said, "Then send me a text message when you get home."
Qiao Yin quickly agreed, and then she sent him off with her eyes before turning her head to look at Xiao Yang and asking, "What else can I do?"
Xiao Yang was looking at her with his hooded eyes, he stuffed his hands in his pockets and asked, "Did you come to visit your old classmate when you met Tong Wei?"
"Yes, the one just now." Qiao Yin was puzzled, but she answered truthfully and added, "Huang Ling and three other old classmates were there as well."
"I got it." Xiao Yang said with a nod, the questioning ended here, and then without changing his expression said, "You can go back now."
Qiao Yin blinked at him for two seconds and finally realized that he had been faking the necessity of keeping her here just so that Zhou ChengZe could be sent away as soon as possible. She narrowed her eyes at him and couldn't help laughing, looking at him craftily as she went, "Xiao Yang..."
He swiftly took out a citywide pass and placed it on her forehead, turning a blind eye to her playfully smiling face, and flatly said, "Take public transport to avoid running into another murderer."
Qiao Yin suppressed her smile as she took the citywide pass. She remembered that she had been hit by bad luck recently, and it was indeed safer to stay in crowded areas. But she still pursed her lips and raised her head to meet his gaze, knitting her brows, pretending to be worried: "What if I encounter terrorists?"
"Then convert to Maori." Xiao Yang said looking at her expressionlessly, before turning back and walked back to the crime scene
Qiao Yin was amused by his answer and couldn’t stop smiling the entire way, not even when she was squeezed in the bus. She took out her phone and opened WeChat and lowered her head as she wrote out a post in the friend moments, "There is a type of man, that no matter how expressionless his face is, he still the most handsome in your eyes. No matter how poisonous the mouth is, you will feel every word that he speaks is amazing. The most important thing is that no matter whether he is hot or cold, he will always make you salivate. (ˉ﹃ˉ)"
Huang Ling, who had long been a 'like' madman, quickly liked and replied: "Does your immortal know that you're such an idiot in friend moments?"
It was rare to see Qiao Yin openly drooling at men instead of food. Chen Minyi, who had always been cold and quiet in friend moments, couldn’t help but comment, "Do your employees know that you're such clown in friend moments?"
Thus Qiao Yin held her phone in the crowded bus and happily chuckled to herself.
Early the next morning, Xiao Yang finally managed to take a short break in the lounge after he finished handling the follow-up of the case. He took out his phone and opened WeChat, and the first thing he noticed were two messages from Huang Ling.
"Peeping devil!!" This was sent in the early hours of Monday morning. That night a few days ago, right after Xiao Yang had replied to her post on moments, he discovered that she had deleted that post along with his moment. He had thought that it was a little weird but didn’t think much about it. He simply turned off his phone and went to rest, so it was only now that he saw her messages.
And the second message showed that it was sent at 10am yesterday morning: "I haven't told her that you are spying in moments yet, so you are free to..."
He finally understood Huang Ling's intentions. So Xiao Yang clicked to open Friend Moments, scrolled down a bit, and quickly found the post that Qiao Yin posted in the morning. His gaze fixed on the term "salivating" for a long time and he inexplicably recalled that day when he thought Qiao Yin had been looking at him with a ravenous expression as if he were food. He sighed and pinched his brow, feeling a little helpless.
In any case, he felt that he should cook her a big meal during this holiday to treat her. After all, it was thanks to her providing the clues that the chain of evidence was finally put together in this case. This allowed them to have a conclusive case file to be handed to the prosecutor without them needing to interrogate Tong Wei's disgusting face day and night.
With that thought, Xiao Yang left the rest for Yan Cong to deal with and headed home.
