AMMIH Chapter 2.3 -- Gut Wrenching Turns ~ Mirai's Saesang

"Qiao Yin?"

On the other side Qiao Yin froze for a second before replying, "Mmm, I'm here."

"I want to ask you something." Xiao Yang said, getting straight to the point, "Chen Wen used to work at your law firm, right?"

"Do you mean the man that just passed away last month? Yes, he used to be a lawyer at our firm."

"Mmm." was his simple reply and then he continued to ask again, "When was the last time you were in contact with his son, Chen HaoXiang?"

She thought for a moment and then responded, "It should be two days ago. What's wrong?"

"Nothing." He coldly responded and then took control of the conversation again, "I remember that year when he was sentenced to jail, it was said to be because he lied in court while representing a client, how did that client's case end?"

“The client was sentenced to death and was immediately executed. " Qiao Yin succinctly responded, without waiting for him to speak, she quickly added, "I don't remember the specifics, the case was four years ago. If you want specific details, I can go get it for you at the law firm."

"No need. If it's needed I will send someone over to get it." Seeing Yan Cong heading his way with big strides, Xiao Yang decided to end the call early, "I'll hang up now, you can continue with your business." He said, immediately hanging up. He put his phone in his pocket and turned to Yan Cong, "How was it?"

"Chen HaoXiang is not home and early this morning he withdrew all the money from his debit card." Yan Cong responded knitting his brows as he stopped in front of him, "Xiao Lu and the others found a switchblade covered in blood under his bed. I feel this is a bit strange, everything was perfectly covered up when he committed the murder. It's not plausible that when he's on the run now, he would leave behind such obvious evidence in his home."

Meanwhile, Qiao Yin stared at her phone for a second, then she continued her chores, placing the clean dishes in the cabinet. Then she wiped her hands as she poked her head out the kitchen and looked at Shen YanFang, who was in the living room, "Mom, are you going back now?" She asked removing her apron, "I'm heading to the law firm right now, I can drive you."

Shen YanFang didn't have anything else to do, so she was happy with getting a ride.

Thus Qiao Yin drove Shen YanFang home and then headed to the law firm. Even on the weekends, there usually were people working overtime at the law firm and today was not an exception. Qiao Yan greeted her coworkers and headed straight to the records room and began searching for the case from that year.

She had not still found it when she heard a knock on the door, she turned her head and saw that it was lawyer Zhang.

"Boss Qiao." He said, nodding at her, and then he pointed to the conference room with an annoyed expression, "There is a man who wants to hire an attorney, but he demanded that he must talk to the boss first. Boss Lu didn't feel well today so he didn't come, how about you deal with this first?"

This law firm was opened by Qiao Yan and two other lawyers and within the first two years they had managed to hire some veteran lawyers, and from there, their firm slowly started to gain recognition. The three of them were not idle during these years either, no matter how small or big the problem or work was, they would always personally attend to it and the number of cases they accepted were not small either.

"Okay, I will be right over." Qiao Yin responded with a nod, glancing at the files in her hand, she could only ask Lawyer Zhang for help, "Are you busy right now? Help me find a file, Lawyer Chen's last case, the one fro four years ago when you find it put it on my desk."

Lawyer Zhang readily agreed and after thanking him, Qiao Yin headed over to the conference room.

In the conference room, there was a 30-something-year-old man around wearing a pair of gold-framed glasses, a suit, and a pair of leather shoes, looking very proper. Qiao Yin smiled as she walked over and shook his hand, "Hello, I'm the boss of this law firm, Qiao Yin."

"Hello Miss Qiao, My name is Li ZhongCheng." He said, shaking her hand. He then took out a business card from his suit pocket and handed it over to her with a small smile on his face, "It's like this, I would like you guys to help me fight a lawsuit. However this case is a bit complicated, so I wanted to speak to you directly."

Qiao Yin accepted the business card and nodded her head in understanding. She then stepped to the side and said, "Let's head to my office so we talk more in detail so I can have a better understanding of the situation."

"Alright." Li ZhongCheng said and then walked two steps before stopping suddenly and holding his stomach and then bending over in pain as his face turned a bit pale. Qiao Yin quickly noticed something was off and quickly approached him, "What's wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

His lips tightened and he raised his head and forced a smile, "I apologize, I came in a rush so I didn't eat anything this morning or in the afternoon...so my stomach is a bit uncomfortable."

Hearing his explanation, Qiao Yin relaxed and revealed an apologetic expression, "I apologize, I did not consider everything. Mister Li, what would you like to eat? There are many restaurants near here, we can go order some food first, you can't stay hungry."

"I'm sorry for taking up your time." Li ZhongCheng apologized, face still pale. He looked at the time on his watch and then said, "You carry on with your business first. On my way here, I saw there was a Thai food restaurant, I will head over and have some food first and then come to find you again."

Qiao Yin was worried looking at his weak complexion, "Are you talking about 'Thai Good Food'? Why don't I drive you there, it's a bit far and it's rush hour so calling a cab is not convenient."

Grateful, Li ZhongCheng did not reject and nodded his head in agreement.

Qiao Yin picked up her bag and got ready to leave, but then she suddenly remembered something. So she went to see Lawyer Zhang, who was still searching for the file, " Lawyer Zhang, Mister Li has not yet eaten, so I'm taking him to 'Thai Good Food'. When you find the file, remember to put it on my desk in my office, thank you."

"Alright, drive safe." Lawyer Zhang responded and Qiao Yin left.

As Qiao Yin was driving out of the parking lot, Xiao Yang received a call from Yan Cong as he was exiting the courtroom.

"Li Cheng is not home, but we found a cut-out of an article about Chen Wen's case in his apartment." Yan Cong reported, "He had cut-out all the articles that were related to that case and posted them on the walls. He also used a red pen to circle the areas that had mentioned his brother, Li JianHui." He paused and then continued, "Compared to what was reported about Chen Wen, it's very little."

"That's why he killed the reporter and newspaper editor." Xiao Yang said as he walked down the stairs, quickly getting to his police cruiser and getting in, "The press followed this case because Chen Wen was put in prison for perjury, leading to his client's order of execution. They wanted to reveal the vicious consequences of lawyers committing perjury in their bid to win. But the press forgot to mention the details about the case itself that Chen Wen was representing. That year when Li JianHui was sentenced to death and executed, it was already a big blow to Li Cheng. And when there was finally a chance to prove the innocence of his brother, Li JianHui, the public's attention was all focused on Chen Wen because of the press's coverage."

"So Li Cheng decided to personally help his brother get revenge..." Yan Cong said, he thought for a bit and then added, "He didn't take any clothes or money, so he is most likely not on the run yet. Normally he should be at work, but he isn't at the company. He already killed the judge and Chen Wen's son, where else could he be?"

"The people who assigned Li JianHui's case to Chen Wen, not only did they not help his brother's case in the end, they also made him lose the chance to prove his innocence. Therefore, they are also at fault." Xiao Yan said turning on his car, he made a U-turn the police vehicle, Xiao Yan made a U-turn and stepped on the gas and sped towards the center of the city as he coldly stated: "Go to the law firm were Chen Wen used to work. He is aiming to kill the boss of the Law Firm."
