Regarding Mo Jingxuan's question, Jing Xin remained silent.
"Wait until this tiny bit of sand has completely fallen, and the hour should be over." Jing Xin lifted the hourglass in her hand, giving him a reminder.
"I concede." Mo Jingxuan looked at Jing Xin, took a deep breath, stood up from the rocking chair, and then walked towards the door.
"Fourteenth Prince, take care, won't see you off."
Then...
"Master, you can come out now. Fourteenth Prince has left." Jing Xin locked the door, walked back to the corner, moved the large vase placed on the floor, and then lifted the bottom layer of the floor. Facing the exposed opening, she called out softly.
"Oh." Qu Tan'er responded with a tone filled with frustration.
"Master, the Prince also had Yu Hao come to look."
"Huh? Is he trying some sinister trick? But he still couldn't find it. It proves that this hole of mine is really good. It's not in vain that I worked hard to dig it out." Qu Tan'er crawled out of the hole, clapped her hands, adjusted her clothes, put the vase back in place, turned around, and walked toward the door.
The door creaked open!
Not far outside the room stood someone who was thought to have already left, Mo Jingxuan.
"Eighth Sister-in-law, so you were really in the room." Mo Jingxuan forced a smile, his face looking somewhat unpleasant, but it wasn't dissatisfaction, and there was no resentment—just a hint of complex frustration.
Qu Tan'er shrugged, smiling strangely.
Glancing back at the room's door, then shifting her gaze back to Mo Jingxuan.
"Don't tell me you were hiding in the same place both times?" Mo Jingxuan looked at her suspiciously.
"Just as you thought."
"The place you were hiding is in the room behind you?"
"Can you guess?" Qu Tan'er didn't give a direct answer because she still found the tunnel useful. It couldn't be exposed now, otherwise, she would have to dig a new one later, wasting energy.
"Eighth Sister-in-law, where are you going?"
"Leaving the mansion."
"I'll accompany you."
"No need, thank you. I know where the main gate is." Qu Tan'er directly refused.
"It's not troublesome. It's safer with me."
"No need. I have Jing Xin to accompany me, and it's just as safe."
"Jing Xin is just a woman, not as safe as me."
"You are more dangerous." Qu Tan'er rejected him thoroughly, leaving him behind without a trace of affection. She glanced at him, then ignored him and turned her gaze to Jing Xin. "Jing Xin, let's go."
The two left, leaving only Mo Jingxuan standing still in place, still unable to recover for a while...
A day out of the mansion.
In the evening, Qu Tan'er and Jing Xin hurried back.
The problem left behind from the last outing had finally been resolved, but the carpenter was still not found.
The sunlight disappeared, and in the blink of an eye, the crescent moon rose. A few strands of dark clouds occasionally drifted by, making the moonlight even more obscure and creating a sense of coldness. The gentle breeze brought a chill.
In the Snow Courtyard, Qu Tan'er felt a bit stuffy, unable to sleep. She got up and walked along the path, occasionally raising her head to look at the dim moon in the sky. The worry in her eyes was evident. Sighing for the nth time in her heart, the sleepless night seemed so long.
Qu Tan'er turned back, but just as she took a few steps, a sudden sound from the distance surprised her. She involuntarily stopped, her ears perked, listening carefully to the surrounding movements.
But listening carefully, there was nothing.
